I have a 2003 Subaru Forester. About 5 months ago I had a slow leak in my right front tire. I got it replaced with a new tire (same size, not a temp replacement) and everything was great.
This morning I was driving home and my right front tire exploded. Causing some shock and fear in me as I went off the road and what not. To add to that I am now VERY confused. It was a new tire - and I just had the tire pressures checked a month ago and they were fine. What could be possibly wrong that I'm having problems with my right front tire? I did a CARFAX history report for my car (I've had the car two years but I'm the second owner) and nothing has been reported as far as body damage.

Lynn the tire is so prone to failure the auto manufactures give you an extra tire in the trunk. I recommend replacing two tires at a time and checking tire pressures with a good pressure gague once a week. Even then you could run over sharp metal and cut down a tire. Make sure the brakes are still working properly before you drive it anywhere. After replacing both front tires or all four tires have the car realigned and suspension and brakes checked for damage caused by the blow out.

How old are the original tires. First concern I have is that you have an AWD car so the total diameter of all four tires must be pretty close or the differentials and transmission can suffer serious damage. As far as the tire busting, there may be a serious alignment issues. If nothing is touching the tire from the car then I don't see what could be wrong with the right front that would cause it. As far as the spare being the same size, it may be but most spares are not built the same so only to be used as a temp.

You must have hit something on the road or maybe there's even something protruding from the car itself that could have popped it. I just hit a pot-hole a few days ago that popped my tire and busted my hub-cap!

It probably isn't anything to do with the car itself since the tire is a pretty independant part in the car and other damaged parts (unless they puctured the tire if they were hanging off the wheel well) probably wouldn't effect the tire at all.

Its just a freak thing I guess and you just have to get it fixed!

P.S. Check the inside part of the wheel and see if something in the brake system could be eating at the tire.

Good Luck!!!

The tire could very will have been flawed by the individual who placed it. It would be erroneous to place fault on the vehicle. The tire balance may have been flawed. Any number of issues could have caused the tire to blow. Consider placing tires that the manufacturer stipulates.

Now I know you feel on this, I too had a tyre (rear passenger) but it had a lump in it so I took it to a tyre place and asked them to fit a new one as I was driving approx 400 miles over the next couple of days to my MILs wedding and I would have 3 kids with me.

Anyhoo, on the journey back, at 80mph, my rear tyre blew out...luckily the motorway wasn't too busy.

Short story is, the stupid garage replaced the wrong tyre...so get that checked out too.
